I know I will have failed my millions and millions of loyal readers if I didn't post something about the Super Bowl. That is why you are here, right? You don't want to know Sun Ming Ming scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, and blocked three shots in his Nighthawk debut Saturday night, or that Florida State beat Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium in an absolutely exciting down-to-the-wire 68-67 nailbiter Sunday afternoon. No, you want to read something Super Bowl related. Well, besides the fact that I predicted the game earlier in the day (Colts by 12, you don't have to believe me), I thought the game was quite ugly and then boring and then was over. Congratulations to the Colts, Peyton Manning, their fans (especially this really smoking hot bartender in my town who is a Colts fan), but after the Saints were eliminated and the Colts finally beat the Patriots, I thought the Super Bowl was anti-climactic.
That being said, I did enjoy the halftime show. I had no idea what to expect from Prince but he was really good. Dude was jamming on the guitar even if he did surprisingly break out into a Foo Fighters song. Hopefully this not only leads to a widespread return of the fatal flying guitar solo, but marks the complete and utter end of boy-bands and pop princesses in halftime performances. This Super Bowl was the third or fourth in a row where a good ol' rock and roll has entertained the masses between the halves. I would make a case to put a fan-friendly rapper like LL Cool J or Jay-Z in there, but unfortunately rap live isn't that good.
Besides his intricate guitar work, I also enjoyed Prince's inclusion of the Florida A&M Marching 100 in his halftime extravaganza. Very pleasant surprise. Having spent six years in Tallahassee I had the pleasure of seeing the Marching 100 live and they put on a really great show. Good to see FAMU representing.
Although game was dull and the commercials equally mediocre (especially that Power Rangers-esque one with the dino-monster thing, what was that?), the Super Bowl was fortunately announced by CBS and not FOX and Prince and the Marching 100 put on a good show. Overall, I give the Super Bowl a "C". Average.
Better luck next year.
Oh yeah, go Seminoles.
